W.M.Tapp Studentships
The Council of ¾«¶«Ó°Òµ College invites applications for W.M. Tapp Studentships in Law. Studentships are open to candidates who are not already members of the College who propose to register as a postgraduate student in the University of Cambridge and to follow a course in the Faculty of Law. The terms of the Tapp Trust do not permit studentships for courses in Criminology. It is unlikely that applications for Tapp Studentships from candidates for the Masters in Corporate Law will be successful.
The value of the Studentship will be determined after considering successful candidates’ income from other sources. Approved University and College fees will be paid, together with a maintenance award which satisfies the University Postgraduate Admissions Office’s conditions for entry as a postgraduate student. An additional college scholarship of £500 per annum is paid. A contribution may also be made towards expenses incurred in travelling to the UK if the student's home country is overseas. An allowance may be paid for dependents, and grants are available for research expenses.
Students will be expected to apply for state studentships or other research awards for which they may be eligible (e.g. AHRC funding, Gates Cambridge Scholarships or awards from the Cambridge Trust). The College can normally accommodate postgraduate students for the three years of their course.
Tenure of a Tapp Studentship is conditional upon the elected student being accepted by the Postgraduate Admissions Office. Candidates must be graduates in Law of any university in the United Kingdom or elsewhere, or be about to graduate not later than 1 September of the year they commence studying at Cambridge. They will be expected to be of outstanding academic ability.
The award of a Tapp Studentship may be conditional upon the candidate's obtaining satisfactory results in their final degree examinations. Successful candidates will become members of the College and will be expected to come into residence in October. The Studentships for the PhD are renewable annually up to a maximum of three years, subject to conditions of diligence and progress.
An application form for Tapp Studentships is available here (PDF*). Two references supporting your college application are also required. The references should be Tapp-specific and indicate your academic fitness and suitability to undertake your proposed course or research. Your completed application form, transcript and two references should reach pg.admissions@cai.cam.ac.uk by January 5, before starting the following October. In awarding the Studentship, first consideration will be given to candidates who nominate ¾«¶«Ó°Òµ College as their college of first preference in their application.
*Please note: if completing the form electronically, keep text inside the boxes as set - the document should not exceed five pages.
